I Love You Sew Much

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well & staying healthy.  I was optimistic that I would get lots of rest on the weekend and kick this yucky cold, but instead it kept me awake and stole my voice.  My hubby probably doesn't mind...

Speaking of hubbies and loved ones, I thought it would be fun to get a head start on Valentine's Day with some beautiful sewing themed papers.  I do love a pun!

For more details, please pop over to my post at Scrapbooker's Paradise.

Thanks so much for visiting!  I will be catching up with everyone as soon as I get caught up on sleep and get my energy back.  Playschool is almost out for the holidays, so I pray we will have a couple of bug-free weeks.

Hugs,

Dawn

Let it Snow

Hello everyone,

I hope you have all been well and keeping warm.  We have been afflicted by one cold after another since my son started playschool, but the last couple have been fairly brutal.  I used to wonder why colds are virtually non-existent in the summer months but now I am wiser.  School is out.  I think they should have large prominently displayed biohazard symbols on all school entrances.  Warn all unsuspecting parents of what is to come.... So, I have been very absent from blogland and I do apologize.  Hopefully I will be able to get some visiting in soon.

A new challenge started today at Christmas at Sweet Stampin' and our theme this month is Let it Snow.  There are still a couple of weeks left before the jolly man dressed in red squeezes down the chimney, so if you still have cards to make, we would love for you to join in.  If you are all finished your cards, this challenge goes on into the new year, so you could always get a head start on your cards for 2014 :)  I thought shaker cards look especially snowy, so that is what I made.

I just love this teddy - he reminds me of my son.  He loves making snow angels.

Supplies:

Image - LOTV coloured with distress inks (brushed corduroy, walnut stain, black soot, weathered wood, tumbled glass)
Paper - Bo Bunny
Other - Stampin' Up snowflake die, pearls, picket fence crackle paint and rock candy glitter

I hope you will pop by Christmas at Sweet Stampin' to take in all the gorgeous snowy cards the design team made and then come and play with us!  We have a fab sponsor - Flat Friends is offering 4 of her beautiful digi's to one lucky winner!

I would also like to enter my card in these challenges:

Fab 'n' Funky - snowflakes
Papertake Weekly - Christmas Creatures
Sparkles Monthly Challenge - Animals
The ABC Challenge - A for Almost Christmas

Thanks so much for visiting.  I hope to catch up soon.

Hugs,

Card or Photo Clips

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well!  I have a quick post to share one of the little clothes pins I altered for hanging the holiday cards and photos we receive this year.  These are super quick and easy, perfect for making in a batch.

If you are not familiar with how to turn a flat die into a rosette, I have included an easy to follow tutorial in my post at Scrapbooker's Paradise.  If you have time, I hope you will pop on by to have a look.

Easy Lacy Snowflakes

Hello everyone,

Well, it was inevitable, but I could have waited a few more weeks for the blanket of snow that now covers everything except the freshly shovelled city sidewalks.  Our unseasonably warm spell couldn't last forever.  It does, however, always put me in the mood for Christmas crafting.  I made some gorgeous snowflakes using a template by Hot Off the Press.  Here is a peak:

For more details, a complete list of supplies, and more snowflake projects, please pop on over to my Showcase Monday post at Scrapbooker's Paradise.

White Christmas

Hello everyone,

Only 42 days until Christmas!!  And it goes so quickly!  Have you started preparing?  A new challenge started today at Christmas at Sweet Stampin' to help you with those holiday cards, tags or any other Christmas paper crafts you might be making this year.  Our theme this month is white on white (WoW).  For this challenge, you can use a coloured image so long as everything else on your project is white.  I had a beautiful new poinsettia stamp that I was anxious to use, so I opted to go for an all white card:

I stamped the image twice on vellum and embossed it in white.  I layered the petals, curling them to give dimension.  I added lots of different textures and glitter to make it interesting.

The team has created some absolutely stunning cards to inspire you, so pop on over to the CASS blog to feast your eyes!  This month we are sponsored by Christmas at Sweet Stampin'!  Details on the prize can be found on the CASS blog.  I hope you will come and play with us!  I am looking forward to seeing all your gorgeous white creations :)

Supplies:

Paper - white textured card, white pearlized card, white vellum
Stamps - Stampin' Up
Dies - Stampin' Up (Merry), Tim Holtz (banner), Spellbinders (frame) and Memory box (flourish)
Other - white and silver embossing powder, pearls, glitter, white stickles, and the little white rose in the center of the poinsettia was made with a Stampin' Up mold and dusted with dazzling diamonds to make it look snowy - I love it!

Challenges I would like to enter:

Allsorts - White Christmas
Crazy 4 Challenges - Let's Frame it
Crimbo Crackers - Christmas words
Papertake Weekly - Snow & ice
Totally Papercrafts - Add glitter

Thanks so much for stopping by and for taking the time to leave a comment.  I really appreciate each one :)

Christmas Ornaments

Hello everyone,

Happy hump day!  I hope your week has been off to a good start.  A quick post from me to share something a little different - some felt Christmas ornaments.  These were really easy and fun to make and came together really quickly.  I love their home made charm :)

These were made using felt and paper crafting supplies.  For a description of my process & materials, please pop on over to my post on the Scrapbooker's Paradise blog.

In other news, twice while preparing my posts, my screen has frozen and an 'error' message appeared saying that I have logged out from another location, would I like to log back in?  Seriously??  Last time I checked, I couldn't be in two places at once, though that would be really handy!  Anyone else experience this?

Anyhow,  I am so glad you stopped in and really appreciate the time you take to leave a comment.

Big hugs & happy crafting,

Time to get Sketchy

Hello everyone,

It is almost the weekend!  Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating :)  With it being a long weekend, hopefully you will all have some extra time to get crafty.  To help inspire you, we have a brand new Playing in Paradise sketch challenge starting today.  This time, our talented team leader Pam has designed a wonderful sketch for you.  This sketch would make a gorgeous layout, and, of course, with a little finagling it can also be made into a gorgeous card or other items.  We would love to see your take on the sketch; everyone is welcome to play along.  Here is my take:

These jumbo peruvian lilies by Stampendous are so gorgeous.  They were coloured with distress inks mixed with coordinating Smooch ink colours to make them shimmery and pearlescent.  I stamped them twice to layer them and give them dimension.  A little paper curling and some pop dots... they look so beautiful in real life.  This photo attempts to show some of the dimension:

Here is Pam's beautiful sketch, which I have rotated and flipped:

The team has made some gorgeous projects to inspire you, so please do pop on over to take a peak on the Playing in Paradise sketch challenge.  I hope you will join in; I'd love to see what you create!

Supplies:

C.C. Designs sentiment
Lace from my stash

Thanks so much for visiting and for taking the time to leave a comment!  I have a major visiting/commenting catch up session planned for the weekend, so see you then!

All I Want for Christmas...

Hello everyone,

Happy hump day!  I hope your week is going well.  Have you started your Christmas cards yet?  It is hard to believe that it is already October.  Thanks to Christmas at Sweet Stampin' I already have a stack of Christmas cards prepared :)  A new challenge starts today, and it is a good one - a card for a male.  Eeeek!  We all have men in our lives who (even though they may not admit it) enjoy getting a hand made card, and if you're anything like me, you put off making them until the last possible minute.  They can be so tough!  So this month, we hope to help you to get those male cards done early.  The team has made some gorgeous cards to inspire you, so please do pop over and check them out.  Then come and play!

After much procrastinating, I finally opted to make a sappy card for my hubby.  He says he likes funny cards, but I think he will like this one too.

My card features the adorable Warm Winter Wishes by Sugar Nellie which I have framed with a gorgeous crocheted mat that my talented blog friend Jessi (One Crafty Mama) sent to me.  Thank you Jessi!!  Because it is black, it was really hard to photograph it in detail, but I attempted anyway:

It looks so gorgeous IRL.  If you pop over to Jessi's blog, you can find all the details for getting your very own mats.

Supplies:

Stamps - Warm Winter Wishes by Sugar Nellie, stamped on 300g hot pressed watercolour paper and coloured with Distress inks (black soot, tattered rose, faded jeans, broken china, wild honey) and embellished with polar white flower soft.  Sentiment is from the Christmas Messages set by Stampin' Up!
Paper - black and white card, DP is from Authentique, Journey collection
Other - Jessi's crocheted doily mat, Stampin' Up! Northern frost snowflake die inked with frosty ink for a little shimmer, ribbon from my stash, white lace stickles, Stampin' Up! marker and Copic glitter pen for colouring the sentiment, Magnolia vintage tag die

We have a fantastic sponsor again this month - My Mum's Craft Shop will be giving a £10 voucher to one lucky winner!!

I would like to enter my card in these fun challenges:

Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge - photo inspiration (I went with the colour)
Papertake Weekly - two by two
Simon Says Stamp - no digis/use rubber
ABC Challenge - W for words (add a sentiment)
The Sugar Bowl - anything Sugar Nellie goes

Thanks so much for stopping by and for taking the time to leave a comment.  I appreciate each one and will do my best to catch up with you as soon as possible.

Hugs and happy crafting,

Paper Planes

Hi everyone,

I hope you have been well & staying away from the little flu critters.  It seems that ever since my son started Play School a few weeks ago, he has had maybe two days without a cold :(  We are all a little sleep deprived...

Onto happier thoughts, I have a LO to share of my little guy (before he got sick).  The complete project, as well as product info can be seen on my post (here) on the Scrapbooker's Paradise inspiration blog.  I hope you will pop on over and have a peek!

Colouring with Distress Ink

Hello everyone,

I hope you have been well!  Cold season officially started, and so far in my family I am the only one who hasn't caught it... but give me a few more days - I wouldn't want to be left out...  Things have continued to be insanely busy, but I think that should be over as soon as I dig myself out of the pile of dishes that has accumulated over the weekend.  So, I am looking forward to catching up with all of your blogs and seeing what you have been creating over the past couple of weeks.

As for me, I have put together a tutorial for Scrapbooker's Paradise (here) in which I attempt to explain how I use Distress inks to colour images.  I have included lots of tips from the many mistakes I have made, so if you are wanting to give this technique a try you won't have to repeat all of my errors...  I hope you will head over to check it out.  Grab a cup before you go...  A complete supply list is also available in that post for those interested.

Thanks so much for popping by!  I am so sorry I have been neglecting everyone, but I will be catching up very soon.

Hugs & Happy Crafting,

PPSC5 - Seeing double

Hello again!

What is going on?  Third day in a row posting??  No wonder I have been pressed for time lol.  I am back to invite everyone to play along in the Playing in Paradise Sketch Challenge.  All you have to do is make something using the sketch.  This month, the super talented Linda designed a beautiful double page layout sketch.  But, as you may know, I feel obliged to represent the card makers out there, so I turned her sketch into a lovely card layout.  I created an easel card using the first page for the cover and the second for the inside.  This was a really fun and easy sketch to use!

The card propped open:

And open laying flat, revealing the second 'photo' spot which was left blank for writing a personal message:

Here is the wonderful sketch:

If you haven't been by the Scrapbooker's Paradise blog, you'll want to make sure you pop on over.  The team has made some beautiful projects to inspire you!  Then come join in the fun :)  We'd love to see what you make with the sketch and there is always a fun prize up for grabs.

Supplies:

Stamps - Crafter's Companion 'Relax' from the Mulberry Wood range.  Image stamped with black Stazon for watercolouring; sentiments stamped with Memento black.
Paper - 300g hot pressed watercolour paper, Bazzill cardstock, Echo Park Here & Now DP
Colouring - Distress inks (black soot, frayed burlap, peacock feathers, peeled paint, spun sugar, tattered rose, walnut stain)
Other - Kaiser Craft lace, pearls, Spellbinders Fancy Tags 2, flowers from my stash

Thanks so much for stopping by and for taking the time to leave a comment.  I really appreciate each one :)

Have a great weekend!  Hugs,

Here Comes Santa!

Hello everyone,

Happy hump day :)  I hope your week is going well.  A new challenge started today (or yesterday depending where you live) at Christmas at Sweet Stampin' and I am a little late telling you about it (sorry!).  But not to worry, you have an entire month to join in :).  Our theme this month is Here Comes Santa!

I got this Santa ages ago and promptly stamped him on this shaped piece of watercolour paper, and then just as promptly forgot about him :(  I think he has been waiting to be coloured for a couple years - how time flies.  The Merry and tree dies on the other hand are new to my collection.  I love these dies :)  New stuff always seems to be so much 'funner' to play with!

We have a fabulous sponsor this month:  Funky kits will be providing one lucky winner with a super prize!

If you haven't already been, you'll want to stop by the Christmas at Sweet Stampin' blog to check out the beautiful cards the team made to inspire you.  Then come and play!  We'd love to see your Santa creations!
It'll be Christmas before you know it!!

Supplies:

Image - Close to My Heart (it was from a monthly promotional set) stamped with black Stazon and coloured with Distress inks (black soot, vintage photo, tattered rose, fired brick, broken china) and skin tone watercolour pencil.  Liquid applique was applied to the beard and the white trim was made fluffier with sugar Sparkly Stuff.
Paper - 300g hot pressed watercolour paper, Bazzill card and the DP is Imaginisce Cottage Christmas
Other - hand stitching, Dazzling Diamonds on the Christmas Tree die by La-La Land Crafts and moonlight Smooch pearlized accent ink on the Merry die by Stampin' Up.

I would also like to enter this card in these fun challenges:

Alphabet Challenge - o is for one word sentiments
Craftyhazelnut's Christmas Challenge Extra - anything goes
Holly Jolly Christmas - Au Natural (include something from nature)

Dreamy Dragon

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well.  I was so excited when I saw that Scrapbooker's Paradise brought in a selection of gorgeous Whimsy Stamps, including one of my all time favourites - Dreamy Dragon.  Of course I could not pass up the opportunity to ink it up!  It is such a pleasure to colour.

I hope you will pop by my post on the Scrapbooker's Paradise blog to see the full project.  A complete supply list is also available there.

Thanks so much for popping by and for taking the time to leave a comment.  I appreciate each one :)  I am trying my best to return visits, but this week is exceptionally busy so it might take me a few days.  However, I will get there.

Nature Brings Solace

Hello everyone,

I hope you are well and enjoying your long weekend if Labour Day exists where you are.  Well, the leaves on my neighbour's tree have started to turn yellow and now that the kids are returning to school, it is hard to deny that fall is on its way.  I was inspired by the changing season to create this card:

I think this is the first landscape I have ever coloured, so please be gentle :o)  For all the details and supplies used on this card, please visit my Showcase Monday post (here) on the Scrapbooker's Paradise blog.

Thanks so much for popping by and for taking the time to leave a comment.  I really appreciate each one.

For the Boys

Hello everyone,

A new challenge starts today at Creatalicious and I am sad to say that this will be my last challenge on the design team.  I have had such a great time on the team and this was a very difficult decision.  However, life has gotten busier as of late and only promises to become even busier in the fall, so I had to make room for other commitments.

This time our theme is 'for the boys.'  Those masculine projects can be sooooo difficult, but we all need them from time to time, so hopefully you are inspired to join in.  We have a fantastic sponsor this month - Stamp Fairy will be providing a $10 gift certificate to one lucky winner.

My hubby is a big football fan, so I wanted to make him a card related to football and his favourite team (the 49ers).  I found this free cut file/pattern at Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons that was just perfect.  I made my own logo to match the team's as closely as I could and on the flip side, put his number.  He loved it so much, I don't think I will ever have to make him another card - just change the number every year lol.  The best part is that my son was able to help me make it - he loves pressing the buttons on my cricut.

Here is the front:

And the back:

If you haven't already, pop over to Creatalicious to see the beautiful projects the team has made - they are sure to impress - and then come play with us :)

Thanks so much for stopping by and for taking the time to leave a comment.  I appreciate each one.

Winter Animals

Hello everyone,

The night air has already turned crisp and the leaves are starting to change colour on some trees in my neighbourhood... sigh.  It feels like summer just started and it hasn't even been a very warm one.  Hopefully it makes a late come back.

A new challenge starts today at Christmas at Sweet Stampin' and our fun theme for you this time around is 'Winter Animals.'  I was rustling through my stash trying to decide what papers to use, when I came across some cute DP with a little winter scene on it.  After that, this card practically made itself.  I usually put in so much more effort with my cards, and it kind of felt like I was cheating, so I compensated by adding tonnes of glitter to all the snowy bits on the image.  The glue I used gave a dimensional effect - I think it turned out cute.

Supplies:

Paper - Bazzil, CTMH (retired) and Creative Imaginations (probably retired)
Other - loads of glitter, my favourite ribbon ever from Stampin' Up (got it in every colour!), Martha Stewart punch, green gems by Kaiser, and Amy R Snowman Sayings sentiment

I hope you will pop on over to Christmas at Sweet Stampin' to see the beautiful cards the talented team has made and then come play with us!  It is absolutely wonderful to already have a stack of Christmas cards prepared :)  Of course, there is a fab prize up for grabs too - Quixotic Paperie will be providing one lucky winner with a £10 voucher to their online store!

I would like to enter my card in the following fun challenges too:

ABC Christmas Challenge - P is for...  Polar bear, penguin, punch
Christmas Card Challenges - optional theme of evergreen trees
Holly Jolly Christmas - Glitter Galore
Jingle Belles - Home for the Holidays

Thanks so much for visiting and for taking the time to leave a comment.  I really appreciate each one!

Hugs,

Put on your shades...

Hello everyone,

And happy Friday!  A new Playing in Paradise sketch challenge starts today at Scrapbooker's Paradise.  This month's sketch was designed by the talented Selena and the team has come up with some gorgeous creations to inspire you.  I hope you will pop over to take a peak and join in the fun!  This month's sketch is really a layout sketch, but I always like to represent the card makers so I turned it into a card anyway :)  Of course, you can make anything you can dream of as long as it uses the sketch.

Did you get your shades on yet?  Consider yourselves warned :)

In a post a while back, our super talented and creative Pam demonstrated a technique using glitter that produced a really neat effect.  After reading it, the gears started turning and I wondered if it could be recreated using thin dies.  This was only my second attempt and I am very pleased with the result.  I started with a very thick (important) cardstock and Sookwang adhesive sheet trimmed to the same size.  Remove one side of the protective covering from the adhesive sheet and stick the adhesive to your super thick card stock.  Then place your thin dies cutting side down on the protective covering of your cardstock- adhesive sheet - protective covering sandwhich and tape them where you would like them to be with a low tack (eg. painters) tape.  If you don't stick them down, there is a good chance they will move on you as the protective film is quite slick.  Run it through your die cutting machine without (important) using a shim.  If your card stock was thick enough, it will only cut through the protective film and not all the way through the card stock.  You can then remove the protective film, one piece at a time and cover/burnish with glitter.  Repeat until all your colours and pieces are complete.  I would recommend starting with the darkest colour and work your way to the lightest.  Also, keep a vacuum handy as this can get pretty messy.  I also used the vacuum to clean my project in between colours - worked like a charm, but use a really soft brush.  I hope that all made sense :)  Clear as mud??

Supplies:

Paper - White shimmery card, off-white shimmery card, super thick white card
Sentiment - Winged Greetings by C.C. Designs stamped on shimmery white card with black Stazon
Other - silver twine, shimmery brads, mini scalloped edge scissors, scoring board (for folding rosettes)
Sketch -

Thanks for stopping by :)  Come and play!!  I'm looking forward to seeing your creations.

Hugs,

My Favourite Stamp Giveaway

Hello everyone,

This is a sticky to remind you that you have until July 29th to enter My Favourite Stamp Giveaway.  You can find the post here.

Wish You Were Here

Hello everyone,

I hope you have been well and that summer is keeping you busy with lots of fun stuff.  Hopefully you are able to find time to be creative too!

I had a little play with the bold and beautiful Bohemian Bazaar line by Graphic 45.  While I love bright, summery colours, I am often at a loss when it comes to creating with them and putting cards and layouts together.  So, this week I challenged myself to create a layout and a card using this line for my Showcase Monday post on the Scrapbooker's Paradise blog.  I loved this range so much, I even created a little bonus project with it that would make a beautiful gift for a little girl.

Here is a peak at the card:

I hope you will pop on over to the Scrapbooker's Paradise blog to take a peak at the other projects.  I have also included details on how I created each project, as well as a full supply list in my SP post here.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great week.

Hugs & happy crafting!

Ribbon Flower Tutorial

Hello everyone,

I'm back again to share a quick and simple thank you card featuring some pretty flowers I made with ribbon.

These flowers are really fun to make and can be adapted to different styles so easily by changing the ribbon and centres.  I have put together a step by step photo tutorial for creating these flowers over on the Scrapbooker's Paradise blog.  For more details on my card and to check out the tutorial, go here.  I hope you like them and give them a try!

Thanks so much for visiting and for taking the time to leave a comment.  I love reading them and having the chance to visit you too.  I have been away, so I have fallen behind again, but will start catching up with everyone again tomorrow (after I get some much needed zzzzzzz's!).

Hugs & happy crafting,

Dawn
